Our Story

In 2008, Marie Magdaleine Cazeau made the decision to return to her country, Haiti, for vacation after over a decade of not being home. Even thoush she grew up in Haiti, in the area of Bellevue de la Montagne and knew how hard things had always been, she didn't realize things had gotten even worse.

She kept hearing news of food disparity and hunger among the people in her community. She therefore decided to use her vacation money to buy food for the neediest families. With $2,000 and a heart to help, large bags of rice, beans, and augar were purchased. Marie Magdaleine, with her mother and daughter by her side, made food kits and distributed them to over 75 needy families of the neighborhood in the bery house where she grew up.

Marie Magdaleine flew back to the States with the conviction of finding a way to help. She reported what she had witnessed to her family and friends who came from the same community. She urged them to get together and do something, if not for their homeland, for their community, their home. She made an impression. About 20 people got together with her and founded Haitian Alliance for Community Action Inc (HACA). In the first three years, our initial projects were funded with contributions from these original members.
